What symptoms are you experiencing? Have you visited Gilead lately?

Jehovah Rapha… The Balm in Gilead

There are symptoms with every medical condition. One of the ways people determine they have the flu is through the symptoms they experience in their bodies. Even less severe conditions like the flu can prove fatal if left untreated. Any condition is identifiable through its symptoms.

How does this relate to experiencing Jehovah Rapha as the Balm in Gilead?

Bitterness, sickness, fear, brokenness, anger, anxiousness, discomfort, pain and everything evil are all symptoms of one condition. Sin! When we begin to experience these symptoms and do nothing about it, we eventually die physically and spiritually (Romans 6:23… “For the wages of sin is death…”) we experience spiritual death first (like Adam did) and then we die physically.

How do we go about treating the main condition to avoid death?

Jeremiah 46:11 “Go up to Gilead and get balm, O Virgin Daughter of Egypt. But you multiply remedies in vain; there is no healing for you”

The passage above says that there is only one true remedy, the Balm in Gilead. The Egyptians were accused of looking for multiple avenues of healing and not getting any because the only remedy was the Balm in Gilead.

We need to see Jehovah Rapha as the only remedy from sin and its effects, the only rescue from the harshness and consequences of sin, the only acceptable cleansing that can totally wash away the trails of sin in our lives and the only rescue from the grip of sin; we need to go to Gilead daily and get soaked up in the Balm.

God looks at us and wonders…
“Is there no balm in Gilead? Is there no physician there? Why then is there no healing for the wound of my people?” Jeremiah 8:22

He wonders… “Am I not alive? Am I not the Healer? Why are my people comfortable with dying when I am Life? Why are they ignoring all the symptoms of death?”

He wonders because His chosen ones are experiencing all the symptoms of a deadly condition and are comfortable, they are doing absolutely nothing about it when in fact they should be alarmed and seeking out help. God is concerned because He knows the end result and He is calling out to us, His children to be conscious of what is happening and take steps to be remedied.

Why are we, God’s own children going through depression, anxiety, pain, sufferings? Is there no Balm in Gilead? Why then is there no healing for our wounds? Could it be that we, like the Egyptians have sought out many irrelevant remedies and abandoned the only relevant one; the Balm!

When we see Jehovah Rapha as the Balm in Gilead, we hold on to Him alone for dear life, we understand that we cannot make it without His cleansing power! We relate with Him as the only source of our livelihood. When we apply the Balm in Gilead to our lives, we are pretty much allowing the Law of the Spirit of Life to set us free from the Law of sin and death.

Get to know Jehovah Rapha, allow Him to cleanse you, free you and keep you from sin, and accept the free gift He gives which is eternal Life in Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23)
